The work that keeps a house workable
Grab bars in the bathroom and beside the entry steps, fastened into framing rather than hung on drywall anchors. Handrails on both sides of a stairway instead of one. Brighter fixtures at the top and bottom of the stairs, where the shadows sit. Thresholds and transitions that no longer catch a toe.
None of it is complicated. All of it is the kind of job that waits years because it feels too small to call a contractor about.
Detectors, and the batteries nobody can reach
Smoke and CO detectors are the most common thing we find neglected, usually because the ceiling is eight feet up and the ladder lives in the garage. We test them, replace batteries, and say which units are past their service life.
A detector chirping at three in the morning is a nuisance at any age. It is a genuine hazard if reaching it means a stepladder.
For the adult children arranging this
A lot of these calls come from someone who does not live in Missoula. A parent mentions the handrail is loose, or you noticed the stair bulbs were out when you visited at Thanksgiving, and now you are trying to sort it from another state.
You can arrange the work with us directly. We talk to your parent about scheduling and access, because it is their house and their call. You get the same photos and written notes afterward, so you can see what was actually done without anyone having to describe it over the phone.
To be clear about what this is: we maintain the property. We are not a caregiving service and we do not provide personal, medical, or in-home assistance of any kind.
Routine upkeep, so the list stops growing
Home maintenance help for elderly parents is rarely one job. It is the gutters, the furnace filter, the storm door that will not latch, and the detector that keeps chirping, and it accumulates faster than anyone deals with it.
Putting those on a maintenance plan means the visits happen on a schedule instead of waiting for somebody to notice.
What we hand off
We install grab bars, handrails, and lighting fixtures. Ramps, stairlifts, walk-in tubs, and full bathroom conversions are outside what we take on, and anything at the panel or behind the wall goes to a licensed trade.
Common questions
- Can you help with home maintenance for my elderly parents?
- Yes, and most of these calls come from an adult child rather than the homeowner. We deal with you on arranging and paying for the work, and with your parent on timing and access. Photos and notes come back to you afterward. This is property work only, with no personal or medical assistance of any kind.
- Will you fit grab bars that actually hold weight?
- We fasten grab bars and handrails into framing rather than hanging them on drywall anchors. If there is no blocking where a bar needs to go, we add it. A bar that pulls out of the wall is worse than no bar at all.
